The American Dream is dead...
I believe that a large portion of the Millennial generation have a newly gained perspective on what it means to lead a fulfilling life. Life is no longer about making millions, material needs, and selfish comforts. The true beauty and meaning in life is building relationships, and reaching out with your own two hands in service of others. We have grown up with technology at our fingertips, and the ability to access an infinite amount of information. This technology has opened up a global network. Our relationships don't have to consist of the people that live in our community, but with people all over the globe.
I believe the American Dream is being reshaped into a meaning that reaches beyond the borders of our own nation. When you are laying on your death bed and ask yourself, "What did I do with my life", what would you say? I hope that I would say that I took risks, experienced adventure, made new friends, and most importantly dedicated my life to ensuring that I did everything I could to leave this world a better place than when I was brought into it.
There is an everlasting reward that is granted through volunteer and humanitarian work. Everyone should give themselves the opportunities to have mind-expanding, life blowing experiences. I have learned this first hand, and this is what ultimately led me to volunteer internationally in a developing nation.
From June 21-August 18 I will be volunteering in Uganda bringing fresh water to village communities in helping children in schools. I think it is extremely important this journey can be experienced by many people on many levels. Follow me as I travel to ignite change; to make a difference.
Jump first, fear later. When you are ready, no matter how old or young you are, you too can in fact change the world.
"I'm profoundly changed. There's a bitter sweet emotion that I feel. I want the world to be different because I was here. However lofty or crazy or delusional that may sound, I want people's lives to be better because I was here.”
